Body Image Concerns in Young Girls: The role of Peers and Media Prior to Adolescence- Chelsea

In the article " Body Image Concerns in Young Girls: The role of Peers and Media Prior to Adolescence" talks about what many other articles talk about which is body issue dissatisfaction. But what makes this article different is the disturbing affects it has on Pre-Adolescent children ranging from ages eight to eleven years old. These pre-adolescent children strive to be thinner and already have the mind set that they want to be on a diet. The most disturbing part of this article was that researchers found girls that were ages six to seven years old desired to be thinner.

After reading the article, I felt as though I am ashamed to be living in a society that promotes thin as being a social norm for young girls. I have read many articles where teens and tweeners have been the main target for promoting thinness, but I find it extremely sickening to target girls that have not even developed certain body parts. The major concern I have is the fact that the age limit for dieting keeps getting lower and lower, when will our society become a positive influence on young girls?
